Tuesday, August 30 2005 14:43 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice on the issue of Nalini Chidambaram taking up an Income Tax Department case with slogan shouting AIADMK and BJP members stalling the proceedings.

As soon as the House met after the first adjournment, Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan asked the members to make their Special Mentions as they could not be taken up in the melee earlier.

The House also returned to Lok Sabha the High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2005 amidst the noisy scenes.

The Central Silk Board (Amendment) Bill 2005 was also introduced in the House. Despite Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Pachouri's announcement that Finance Minister P.Chidambaram was willing to come to the House to clarify on the issue, the unrelenting BJP and AIADMK members persisted with their demand for resignation of the finance minister

Sensing the mood, the Deputy Chairman adjourned the House till 1500 hours.

Earlier, the House was adjourned for an hour by Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on the same issue.
