SC suggests EC to defer notice of Bihar poll process
Wednesday, August 31 2005 13:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Election Commission today (August 31, 2005) told the Supreme Court that it would issue a press release signalling the commencement of the election process for the Bihar assembly within 3-4 days but was taken aback when the court suggested its deferment in view of an important question being referred to the Constitution Bench.

Spotlight: Bihar Elections

The court asked the Election Commission if it could wait till September 6 when a Constitution Bench would hear the question on the immunity given to the Governor from court proceedings.

The court is likely to give an order on this issue at 1400 IST today (August 31, 2005).
