Amritsar: Sukhpreet Kaur, wife of Sarabjit Singh, now on death row in Pakistan, along with her teenaged daughters yesterday (August 30, 2005) met two members of the Pakistani National Assembly here and handed over to them a memorandum seeking Presidential pardon for her husband.

Chowdhury Imtiaz Alam and Munir Alam, the two lawmakers, assured Sukhpreet that they would hand over the memorandum to President Musharraf at the earliest.

The memorandum, addressed to the Prez, said, "Since Sarabjit's family is badly tired and does not want to continue the legal battle for his release, it will be appropriate for Musharraf to grant him clemency."

"The family, under no circumstances, will like to waste time by filing a review petition to save the life of Sarabjit," it said, adding, "We hope the President will be kind enough to grant clemency to Sarabjit."

The family expressed happiness over two Indian diplomats meeting Sarabjit yesterday (August 30, 2005) in a jail in Lahore.

This had come at a time when both India and Pakistan had agreed to solve the problem of prisoners languishing in each other's jails in a humanitarian manner, the memorandum said.

Sarabjit Singh, sentenced to death for his involvement in bomb blasts in Pakistan, is languishing in Kotlakpath Rai Jail in Lahore for the past 15 years.
