CPI-M to decide after BHEL disinvestment case Friday, September 2 2005 14:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
As a three-day meeting of its Politburo and Central Committee began here, the Communist Party of India (Marxists) today (Sept 2, 2005), made it clear that it would not reconsider the decision to withdraw from the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coordination committee meeting until it heard something formally from the Government on the BHEL disinvestment issue.
"Until we hear something formally from the Government that they will not violate the CMP regarding the navratnas," Politburo member Sitaram Yechury said adding the Left parties had suspended participation in the UPA meetings on the ground that the Government was acting in "violation" of the CMP.
Asked about West Bengal Chief Minister's recent visit to Indonesia and Singapore for attracting foreign direct investment, he said, "It would surely be reported to the Politburo and the Central Committee meeting. As far as we are concerned, there is no controversy
regarding the matter."
Yechuri said the three-day deliberations are routine in nature, which are held every six weeks. The upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar and the political situation in the country would come up during the discussions.
Organisational matters and the "people's movement" the party had launched on questions of jobs, food and land would also come up for discussions.
