Nine persons, including two scribes were injured in bomb explosions and subsequent attack on policemen by angry locals who also burnt a portion of a police outpost in Bihar's East Champaran district headquarters town in Motihari today(Sept 2, 2005), police said.
Unidentified criminals exploded bombs near some shops, including a BATA and a two-wheeler showroom at the busy Meena Bazaar, Police Superintendent Vinay Kumar told sources from the spot.
The incident triggered violent protests by the locals who attacked the policemen with stones and brickbats and partially burnt the police outpost in the market, the sp said adding the crowd was later controlled by police with 'use of mild force'.
While five persons were injured in the explosions, others including two journalists, suffered injuries in the stone throwing and clash with the policemen, police said.
The injured were hospitalized, Kumar said adding the blast was aimed at terrorizing the businessmen for their refusal to pay extortion.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were deployed to assist the local police.
tension prevailed in the town, Kumar added.
