Film stars form Film Cricket Board for social causes Friday, September 2 2005 16:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Leading luminaries of Indian film and cricket world have come together to form Film Cricket Board (FCB) to support untapped sporting talent and various social causes in the country by raising money through playing cricket against other celebrity teams in India and abroad.
"Through film cricket board, we hope to transform great success stories like the one shown in the movie 'Iqbal' into a reality, where the underprivileged children would get more opportunities to play at the highest level," former India skipper and brand ambassador of FCB, Kapil Dev told reporters in Mumbai yesterday (Sept 2, 2005)
night.
The proceeds would be given to Hero Indian Sports Academy (HISA), headed by Kapil Dev and an NGO 'ONE', both for the promotion of sport and individual sporting scholarships for underprivileged children.
"Initially we would look at promoting cricket. As the concept gets more popular, we would use the funds to promote other forms of sports as well," Kapil Dev said.
The FCB XI skipper and cine actor Suniel Shetty said, "The money would also be used for other social causes. This is our way to assure the countrymen that we are always there for the society. We have already done this earlier. But now we aim to make it a serious affair."
The FCB team consists of around 30 members from the film industry including Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Aditya Pancholi, Sohail Khan, Bikram Saluja and Jimmy Shergill.
