TRS Chief Rao meets PM, discuss naxal issue in AP
Friday, September 2 2005 11:44 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief and Union Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, who has threatened to review his continuation in United Progressive Alliance (UPA), met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday (Sept 1, 2005).

His meeting with Singh came hours after a meeting with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Later, he also met Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil.

Rao did not speak to waiting reporters after his meetings with the Prime Minister and Home Minister.

TRS Legislature Party leader Vijayarama Rao, who briefed the reporters, said the Central Government should intervene so that a permanent solution can be found to the naxal issue in Andhra Pradesh.

"There are similar Issues in Northeast, Punjab and some other states, which are being sorted out through talks. Why not in AP also? Central government should take the initiative in this regard so that a permanent solution is found", he said.

Rao said police force cannot solve the problem and the Central Government should announce financial assistance to the state to eradicate poverty and unemployment.

The Prime Minister assured the TRS delegation that he look into the issue and consult the State Government and the Chief Minister, he said.

Earlier in the day, the TRS chief said he would have to decide whether to continue in UPA or not as the Chief Minister has been consistently adopting an anti-Telangana attitude.
