Petition seeking to quash election of Sonia to LS
Saturday, September 3 2005 10:08 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Lucknow: The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court yesterday (September 2, 2005) fixed October 18, 2005 as the next date of hearing on a writ petition seeking quashing of the election of Congress President Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat on the ground that she had allegedly submitted a wrong affidavit during nomination.

A Division Bench of Justice Pradeep Kant and Justice K S Rakhria passed the order on a writ petition filed by Janta Party President, Subramaniam Swami, challenging the rejection order of his application which alleged that Gandhi had filed a wrong affidavit before the Returning Officer/District Magistrate, Rae Bareli.

The District Magistrate had rejected the application on October 23, 2004, following which the writ petition was filed seeking dismissal of the rejection order.
