Haryana failed to prevent Gohana violence: Advani
Sunday, September 4 2005 16:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Describing as 'horrific' the recent caste violence in Gohana, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (Sept 4, 2005) held the local police solely responsible for the mayhem and described as 'political conspiracy' the allegations that a local party MP or his relatives were involved.

"The local police is wholly responsible for this incident, because it has the support of Haryana Government. Due to inaction none of the local police officers has been held responsible and no one has been punished do far," former Union Minister, Ashok Pradhan, said here after presenting the party's fact-finding report to party chief L K Advani.

"It was a horrific incident. First the murder and later the torching of houses. The administration has totally failed to prevent the violence," Advani said.

Accusing the police for failing to prevent the violence and arrest the culprits, Pradhan denied involvement of Sonepat BJP MP Krishn Lal Sangwan or any member of his family in the violence and described charges in this regard as a 'political conspiracy.'

Demanding adequate compensation for affected Dalit families whose houses were burnt down, the BJP team sought a judicial or CBI probe into the episode and resignation of B S Hooda Government taking moral responsibility for the violence.

The fact-finding team also included two other MPs, Ram Nath Kovind and Krishna Lal Diler and Meera Kanwaria and Dushyant Kumar Gautam.
