Assam a centre of ISI activities: Promod Mahajan Monday, September 5 2005 11:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Guwahati:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday (Sept 4, 2005), alleged that Assam had become the hub of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) activities in the country resulting in the possible involvement of Islamic fundamentalist forces in the recent killing of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader in Nalbari.
"The Centre has given a list of terrorists to Pakistan after the Home Secretary level meeting and the name of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) commander in chief Paresh Baruah is mentioned which proves that the ISI had made Assam its centre", BJP leader Promod Mahajan told reporters in Guwahati.
Mahajan who visted the family members of slain RSS leader Sukleswar Medhi in Nalbari said his party had demanded a CBI probe into the killing to probe the extent of involvement of Islamic fundamentalist forces.
"Medhi had started a Jan Jagaran (mass awareness) campaign on the ill effects of infiltration by distributing handbills throughout Nalbari district and thus his killing raises doubts of involvement of foreign forces", Mahajan said.
"All killings in Assam is credited to ULFA but the local people have got a feeling that fundamentalist forces may be also involved in the dastardly killing", the BJP leader said before leaving for New Delhi.
