Tuesday, September 6 2005 11:57 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized a Landcruiser car from the son of former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu on charges that it was brought into the country after tax evasion, DRI sources said today (Sept 6, 2005).

The DRI sleuths seized the vehicle of businessman Chandan Basu during an ongoing probe into a racket of importing cars by evading custom duty upto 105 per cent, they said, adding, Chandan's role was being investigated.

The DRI has seized eight more imported cars brought into the country allegedly by one Sanjay Bhandari, who claimed to be a hotelier.

Bhandari had obtained license from Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) for importing luxury cars for foreign clients and earned foreign exchange while claiming to be the owner of two non-existent hotels in Rajasthan, the sources said.
