BJP state unit demands Rs 10 crore for Bangalore
Tuesday, September 6 2005 15:27 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: Karnataka unit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (Sept 6, 2005) urged the Chief Minister N Dharam Singh to release Rs 10 crore immediately to restore roads and drains that have suffered extensive damages in the torrential rains that pounded the city.

State unit BJP General Secretary R Ashok, MLA, at a press conference alleged that even 24-hours after Singh undertook a visit to flood hit areas, no work has been taken up.

Unless works were initiated on a war footing, epidemic might break out in waterlogged areas, he warned.

City Municipal Councils have no funds for development activities, as the Government has barred them from levying development cess, he said.

State Unit President Jagadish Shettar said corruption was rampant in the coalition Government and charged that development has come to a halt in the backdrop of bickering among the coalition partners.

Senior leader K S Eswarappa said the party would organize a convention of Backward Classes, Dalits and Slum Dwellers here on October 28, 2005 to fight for their cause, who, he alleged, have been neglected by Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JDS).
