Thackeray criticizes media for flaying his remarks Tuesday, September 6 2005 13:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray yesterday (Sept 5, 2005) criticized 'capitalist' media for flaying his recent remarks against former Sena leader and present Revenue Minister Narayan Rane.
"Some of these newspapers, especially Sakal and Lokmat, have launched a tirade on the language I used while referring to him", Thackeray said in an editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna'.
"Do we have to learn how to use Marathi language from these people?" Thackeray asked.
The Sena chief cited the example of late Acharya Atre, who as editor of the Marathi newspaper 'Maratha' used 'the same acerbic language that I use today'.
Terming Rane as 'a one and half feet long snake', Thackeray said 'the snake, besides biting the Sena, also bit Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders Sharad Pawar and R R Patil'.
"Our Shiv Sainiks will crush the head and tail of this snake and make the Marathi people free of its poison", Thackeray said.
