Security forces kill holed up militant in J & K
Thursday, September 8 2005 12:47 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Srinagar: Security forces today (Sept 8, 2005) killed a militant holed-up in a house near the Civil Secretariat after a 19-hour gun battle which left a policeman dead and three jawans injured.

"We have killed him (the militant)," Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Muneer Khan told sources.

The militant was killed at 10.15 a.m. by a special team of security forces after they stormed the house in Suthra Shahi locality near the Civil Secretariat, Khan said.

The ultra had taken refuge in the house after a vain attempt to storm a security forces camp in the area yesterday (Sept 7, 2005).

The militant, before being shot dead, hurled a grenade and opened fire on security forces in which a policeman was killed and three security personnel injured, he said.

The special team, before launching the final assault, rescued some civilians and security personnel trapped in the firing, he added.

Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammad and al-Mansoorian militant outfits have jointly claimed responsibility for yesterday's firing incident.
