Centre made Govt-Hurriyat talks Pak-centric: BJP
Friday, September 9 2005 10:36 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Accusing the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) dispensation of 'bungling' on Kashmir on several counts, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday (Sept 8, 2005) alleged that the Government has allowed the Centre-Hurriyat talks to become 'Pakistan-centric' by accepting the triangular formula of involving 'people of Kashmir'.

The party also demanded the release of the 'contents and purpose' of the dialogue with the separatist conglomeration to the opposition parties to dispense with 'confusing reports' and evolve a consensus.

"The UPA Government has bungled on more than one count regarding Kashmir. First, it made the Indo-Pak talks Kashmir-centric. Now, it is making government-Hurriyat talks Pak-centric," party spokesman Prakash Javedekar said in a statement here.

Taking exception to Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq's statement that the talks emphasised the completion of a cycle of 'triangular concept of dialogue,' the BJP spokesman said his party did not subscribe to such a viewpoint as it considers Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of the country.

"It is worrisome," he said. "We do not subscribe to the concept of triangular talks as J-K is an integral part of the country and this position is irrevocable," the statement quoted Javedekar as saying. He said there were reports that Hurriyat had demanded withdrawal of Indian troops from the state.

"Pakistan has also raised the same issue. But the ground reality suggests a different picture. There is no let up in infiltration and cross-border terrorism," he said.
