Rains lash city, water logging in several areas Friday, September 9 2005 16:24 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Heavy rains again lashed Mumbai today (Sept 9, 2005) inundating several areas of the metropolis while suburban train services were affected.
According to police sources, more than the southern Mumbai localities, the northern suburbs were badly hit by rains that started in the afternoon.
More than a dozen intersections in the city and suburbs witnessed traffic jams due to water logging.
Water logging in at least three sections of western and central railway has slowed down the suburban railway traffic, police sources added.
Mumbai police control room authorities told sources that water logging was reported at Andheri, Khar and Milan subways, Sahar-Bahar junction, Vile Parle junction, Coldvita lane in MIDC (all in western suburbs), Ghatkopar-Narayannagar junction, Kurla depot-Wadia junction and Sion circle (easternsuburbs), Hindmata junction and Bharatmata junction in central Mumbai.
"Water level are almost one and half feet at these junctions, as a result of which traffic has come virtually to a halt," police sources said.
According to Government Railway Police (GRP) sources, water logging has been reported at Sion-Matunga and Masjid sections of central railway, and Bandra-Khar section of Western Railway.
Western Railway sources said the suburban train traffic was normal, while Central Railway sources said that trains were plying at slow speed in the section.
