Saturday, September 10 2005 11:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Sheikhpura: One person has been arrested and a senior Congress leader and former Bihar minister Ashok Chaudhary made an accused in the killing of former Lok Sabha member Rajo Singh, police said.

Shabmbu Yadav, son of slain Sheikhpura district Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Kashi Nath Yadav, in whose murder Rajo Singh was an accused, was arrested from his residence here late yesterday (Sept 9, 2005) night.

Sheikhpura town police have registered an FIR against seven persons, including former minister in the Rabri Devi Government Ashok Chaudhary and district RJD president Lattu Yadav in connection with Singh's killing.

The police recovered the bullet-riddled body of Shyam Nandan Singh, a resident of Lohan village in Sheikhpura district, in the wee hours today (Sept 10, 2005)from the bushes at the district Congress party office. He was present during the killing of the former MP and had tried to escape but was felled down by the assailants before they fled, the sources said, adding earlier it was believed that he had managed to escape.

Rajo Singh, a two-term MP from Begusarai and six-time member of Bihar assembly was shot dead at the Congress party office by four unidentified assailants around 7 pm.

He was an accused in the killing of nine RJD workers, including the then district RJD president Kashi Nath Yadav in year 2001 and was on bail. His son Sanjay Singh, a former Bihar minister himself, is still in Munger jail for his alleged involvement in the massacre.

Kashi Nath Yadav was considered close to former minister Ashok Chaudhary, who was at loggerheads with Rajo Singh and his son for a long time over establishing their supremacy in Sheikhpura.
