Sarabjit's daughter writes letter to Musharraf Monday, September 12 2005 11:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bikhiwind (Amritsar):
Seeking unconditional clemency of her father Sarabjit Singh, facing death row in Pakistan in connection with 1990 Lahore bomb blast, Poonam, his teenaged daughter yesterday (Sept 11, 2005) wrote a letter to President Pervez Musharraf in her own blood.
"Dear Uncle Pervez Musharraf, my father is innocent and he be released forthwith from the Pakistani Jail. My father's real name is Sarbjit Singh and not Manjit Singh," she
said in the letter.
Poonam said she had written the letter in her blood so that Pakistan President will have mercy on the helpless family in Bikhiwind.
"Our family cannot remain alive without my father as fifteen years have already passed since he has been serving the jail term in Pakistan," Poonam told reporters here.
She said during 1990, her father had crossed over to Pakistani territory inadvertently in a drunken state and subsequently was arrested by the Pakistani rangers and lodged
in the Kotlakhpat Rai Jail of Lahore.
Last month, Pakistan Supreme Court awarded him death sentence for allegedly carrying bomb blast in Lahore.
Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit Singh has already written letter to Musharraf for the clemency of her brother.
