Kannada science conference to begin on Thursday Tuesday, September 13 2005 16:15 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

A three-day Kannada Science Conference commences here on Thursday covering various branches of science, both general and applied, traditional and modern, like physical, chemical, social, cultural and psycho sciences as well as engineering and technology.
Research and review articles on these subjects will be presented in Kannada and discussed during the conference, jointly organised by National Aerospace Laboratories and Vijnana Bharathi, NAL Director A R Upadhya said today (Sept 13, 2005).
Upadhya said alternative fuels and aerospace sciences have been chosen as the special themes for the event, where presentation and discussion on the country's scientific heritage and current scientific issues would also form part.
"Presently, a number of experiments are going on in science communication in Kannada at different levels by different voluntary groups", he said. "This conference will also provide a forum to exchange their experiences and possibly arrive at an integrated approach".
The conference, Upadhya said, provides an excellent opportunity for scientists, science enthusiasts, lovers of Kannada and authors to exchange experiences and views.
At the conference, Dr. Vishveshvaraya Vijnana Puraskara (award) would be presented by Vijnana Bharathi to eminent Karnataka scientists in traditional and modern sciences who have contributed to the development of science in the State.
It will be handed to Prof. C N R Rao, Dr. U R Rao, Prof. R Narasimha, Dr. V K Aatre, Dr. S K Ramachandra Rao and Dr. N R Narayana Murthy, it was stated.
