Mamata accuses CPI-M of launching a battle of lies
Tuesday, September 13 2005 20:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress Chief, Mamata Banerjee, today (Sept 13, 2005) said Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) had launched a 'campaign of lies' to confuse the people about its 'conspiracy' to hand over agricultural land to Indonesia's business house Salim group and added that party would take out a 'symbolic' protest rally here tomorrow (Sept 14, 2005) on the issue.

She dismissed the CPI(M)'s leadership's plea that no prime land would be handed over to Salim group.

"The CPI(M) has been protector of big jotedars (landlords) and vested interests in rural Bengal during the last 28 years," she alleged.

The Trinamool Congress supremo said, "Left Front Government has already handed over prime agricultural land to a number of promoters and this land is being used not for industrial purposes but for making personal profits through promoting. We will resist to hand over agricultural land." She said adding that CPI(M) was telling all lies that locked up land of the closed factories and industries could be considered for Salim group's project.

Banerjee took exception to the CPI(M) State Secretary Anil Biswas's sarcasms that Trinamool Congress which represented the vested interests were now pretending to be the champion of farmers.

"The roles are in fact reversed now," she told PTI.

The Trinamool Congress Chief indicated that the party was thinking of scaling down its earlier plan for a grand rally tomorrow considering the ensuing festival for which people are thronging shops.

"It will be a symbolic protest tomorrow", she said.
