Social activist and actress Nafisa Ali was appointed Chairperson of the Children's Film Society of India (CFSI) today (Sept 13, 2005), official sources said.
She succeeded actor Raveena Tandon who resigned from the post earlier this year citing personal reasons.
Winner of the Miss India crown at 19, runner up at the subsequent Miss International contest, model, actress, TV star and recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award, Ali was the national swimming champion from 1972-1974.
Nafisa, who was also a Calcutta Gymkhana jockey in 1979, is actively involved with the Non-Governmental Organisations Action India and The Naz Foundation. Nafisa has also worked with the quake victims in Kutch district of Gujarat.
She had entered the political arena last year as a Congress candidate in the Lok Sabha against Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Bannerjee in Kolkata but had lost.
