Mukherjee backs Manmohan's remarks on Vajpayee
Wednesday, September 14 2005 16:41 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee today (Sep 14, 2005) described as "absolutely correct" Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's remarks in New York that his predecessor Atal Bihari Vajpayee was critical of the Indo-US nuclear pact.

"Whatever the Prime Minister has said is absolutely correct," Mukherjee told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar here (New Delhi).

In their meeting in New York today, US President George W Bush told Singh that he remained fully committed to the nuclear pact between the two countries and hoped that he would obtain Congressional approval for it.

In response, Singh said although he had his Parliament's backing, he was surprised that Vajpayee had been sharply critical of it.
