Britain assures support for Indo-Pak peace process Thursday, September 15 2005 15:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New York:
Britain has assured its full support for the ongoing Indo-Pak dialogue process to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
The meetings between leaders of India and Pakistan have given a new sense of hope to the peace process, Prime Minister Tony Blair said after wide-ranging talks with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.
"Britain will do everything we can to support discussions between Pakistani and Indian leadership that can lead to a peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute," he told reporters.
He said he had discussed the Kashmir issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to New Delhi last week.
"Our task is not to create difficulties but to work in a cooperative spirit to resolve the long-standing issue and what has happened in the last few months during meetings between the leadership of the two countries gives a sense of possibility and hope," he was quoted by state-run Pakistani news agency APP as saying.
