Floral tribute paid toVeerappan near Salem highway

Dharmapuri: Nearly a year after Veerappan was gunned down by the Special Task Force, some youth of Palayampuram near here paid floral tributes to his portrait at a spot on the Dharmapuri-Salem National Highway today, police said.

The youths also stuck a flag of the 'Vanniyar Sangam', a caste based outfit, on the portrait.

People from Jarugu, Ajipatti and Gongalpuram villages also reportedly joined in garlanding the portrait, police said.

Police pickets have been posted in the area as a precautionary measure.

The brigand was killed in an encounter at Padi village near here by the special task force on October 18 last year.
