Sugar farmers not paid remuneration, wages irregular

Pondicherry: The Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) today (Sept 19, 2005) alleged that a private sugar company had not paid remuneration to large number of sugarcane farmers for about two years.

The employees and workers of the sugar company were also not getting their wages properly, Kannnan, the chief of PMC said while opening his party office at Villianoor near here.

Accusing the Government of not taking any serious step like involving labour department in this matter, he said the Government had only assigned a police official to find out a solution to the issue.

He claimed that the trade union leaders of his party in Mudaliarpet in a village in Villianoor were facing threat to their lives while police was keeping quiet.
