Prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi was produced before the Special Court here today (Sept 21, 2005) through the videoconferencing facility from Pune's Yerawada Jail as the trial of the second fake stamp paper case began.
This is the first case involving Telgi that has gone to the trial stage before the Special Court here.
First witness, Krishna, an attendee of the Victoria Hospital, was produced before the Court Special Judge A T Manoli.
Krishna, who was also cross-examined, narrated the sequence of events on the alleged bribe taken by two doctors of the Victoria Hospital in June 2002 to give a fake medical certificate to Telgi to enable him to get bail.
The trial involves the case registered against Telgi and the two doctors under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Fifteen more witnesses are slated to depose before the Court in this case.
Telgi watched the proceedings from Pune through video-conferencing. It is said that videoconferencing facility is being used in the criminal trial stage for the first time
in the State.
