Cochin University of Science and Technology is one among the ten universities selected for establishing the Rajiv Gandhi Chair by the Human Resource Development Ministry.
This was part of a national programme to honour the contributions of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was the architect of the National Educational Policy 1986, a CUSAT release said today (Sept 22, 2005).
The university will soon identify the area from among the specified subjects like Panchayati Raj and Local Governance, Women's Empowerment, impact of technology on society, Ecosystem and sustainable development, livelihood and food security, nuclear disarmament and peace, tribal development, protection of child rights, social justice and secularism and nation building, it said.
Rajiv Gandhi chair will be fully funded by the University Grants Commission. The University will submit detailed proposal for the same in consultation with UGC
shortly, the release said.
