Ahmedabad:
The Godhra inquiry Commission today (Sept 24, 2005) instructed the U C Banerjee Committee probing the Sabarmati train carnage to submit copies of all relevant records to the Commission within 15 days.
In an order issued by the two-member Nanavati-Shah Commission inquiring into the Godhra train carnage and the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat, the Chairman Justice G T
Nanavati (retired) said, "(U C Banerjee) Committee is requested to send copies of the deposition of witnesses recorded by it and all the relevant records received from the railway authorities and other experts."
The Commission also instructed the Banerjee Committee to submit the documents within 15 days so that the work of the Commission is not held up.
Few months back, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had submitted an application pleading the Commission to ask the Banerjee Committee to submit documents of its investigation after the Committee in its preliminary report had stated that the fire in S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express in which 59 people were burnt to death on February 27, 2002 was 'accidental.'
"Under Section 119 of the Railways Act of 1989, the Nanavati-Shah Commission set up under the Commission of Inquiry Act can ask the high-level U C Banerjee Committee to submit authenticated copies of all relevant documents," advocate Deepak Shukla representing VHP told reporters here.
