Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Ahmedinejad yesterday night (Sept 23, 2005) during which he asked him to adopt a 'flexible position' and make concessions on the nuclear issue to avoid confrontation.
Ahmedinejad called up Singh and raised the issue of Iran's nuclear programme at the International Atomic Energy Agency, an External Affairs (IAEA) Ministry statement said.
"The Prime Minister advised him that Iran should consider taking a flexible position so as to avoid a confrontation," the statement said.
The Prime Minister repeated the necessity for Iran to make concessions to this end, it said.
"India supports resolution of all the issues through discussion and consensus in the IAEA," it said.
Prime Minister and Ahmedinejad also reviewed bilateral relations.
