We will not be compelled to sit for talks: ULFA
Monday, September 26 2005 18:09 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Guwahati: Two ULFA militants were killed today (Sept 26, 2005) in an encounter with the Army in Upper Assam's Dibru- Saikhowa National Park even as the banned insurgent outfit's commander-in-chief Paresh Barua warned that his outfit would not be compelled to sit for talks through use of force and Army operations.

Tinsukia district superintendent of police Debajit Hazarika told sources that the two ultras were killed in an encounter with the troops inside the park where Army operations were on since early this month.

Hazarika said that the slain militants' bodies would be brought to Tinsukia town for a post-mortem today.

Paresh Barua told local media here last night that his organization had "come forward for talks with the Government and the peace process had advanced quite a bit with the constitution of the 'peoples consultative group' to work out the modalities for the direct talks betweeen the ULFA and Centre.''

"But the Centre's conspiracy to make the ULFA sit for talks through Army operations, weapons and use of force would not compel the ULFA to sit for talks," asserted Barua.

"No political problem could be solved through the use of Army. The government is living in a fool's paradise if it seeks to solve the Asaam-India conflict through Army operations," Barua warned.
