India gears-up for Western Australian Premier visit

Bangalore: Premier of Western Australia Geoff Gallop is arriving in India on Saturday (Oct 1, 2005) on a ten-day visit seeking to expand trade opportunities, particularly to explore tie-ups in LNG and mineral resources.

Gallop's visit will include meetings with various leading industrialists from India Inc., and key political Ministers and bureaucrats to explore tie-ups in LNG and mineral resources, Western Australian Trade Office - India, said in a statement.

He will also promote Western Australia's premium wine growing region of 'Margaret River', the statement said. Besides New Delhi, Gallop will visit Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai.

The premier will also discuss existing relations between India and Western Australia as well as developing future trade partnerships in the field of mining, agriculture-business, bio-technology, education and training, it was stated.

Western Australia is the largest state of Australia and contributes to over 30 per cent of Australia's export earnings. India is Western Australia's fourth biggest trading partner, which is mainly driven by the export of gold and mineral resources, the statement noted.
