Ten killed, 36 feared perished in Nepal floods
Thursday, September 29 2005 10:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kathmandu: At least 10 people were killed and nearly 40 feared perished in Nepal's far west due to floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall since the past two days, official sources said here yesterday (Sept 28, 2005).

At least 46 people were swept away in floods and landslides in western Kanchanpur and Dadeldhura districts after the raging Shirsha river breached its embankments, the sources said adding, 10 bodies have been recovered.

Army troops were searching for the 36 missing people and distributing relief materials in the affected areas.

The river swept away several houses in the worst-hit remote Shirsha village and the missing included all 13 members of one of the village's families, sources said.

The Government has mobilised teams of army and policemen to re-construct the embankment which was damaged due to the floods.
