MP Shahabuddin sits for LLB exam in despite alert Saturday, October 1 2005 13:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna:
Controversial Lok Sabha member from Siwan, Md Shahabuddin appeared for the LLB examination conducted by Bihar University at Muzaffarpur on Thursday (Sept 29, 2005) despite a nation-wide alert.
DIG (Thirhut range) Gupteshwar Pandey has asked Muzaffarpur Superintendent of Police Ratan Sanjay, who had launched a campaign against the elusive Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP when posted in Siwan, to hold an inquiry.
"I have asked the SP to hold a detailed investigation and submit a report as early as possible," Pandey told sources over phone from Muzaffarpur today (Oct 01, 2005).
Shahabuddin had even attended a meeting organised by RJD's minority cell in Muzaffarpur a few weeks ago.
According to reports, Shahabuddin took the second year LLB examination at RDS College as a candidate from S K Memorial Silver Jubilee Law College, Muzaffarpur.
A top source in the police department, on condition of anonymity, told PTI that the MP had, in fact, "not personally turned up for examination and the papers were written by somebody else in his place and Shahabuddin's signature was obtained on the attendance sheet later".
"The controller of examination, invigilators and other university and college authorities - tasked with holding the test - will be probed and appropriate action will be taken against the guilty," Pandey said.
The Bihar police had recently sounded a nation-wide alert for Shahabuddin who is evading arrest in a number of cases related to seizure of illegal firearms, unaccounted foreign currency, stolen vehicles and a deer during a raid on his Pratappur house in Siwan district on April 24 this year.
