Mission to make India free of TB by 2010: Kalam
Sunday, October 2 2005 15:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: President APJ Abdul Kalam today (Oct 02, 2005) exhorted all those involved in the area of Tuberculosis control to work 'in a mission mode' to make India free of the disease by 2010.

While receiving a seal from the Tuberculosis Association of India, Kalam said he would like to see India free of Tuberculosis by 2010.

All those involved in the Tuberculosis control should work in a mission mode towards the goal, he said.

Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, who was present on the occasion, said the Tuberculosis control programme, which uses the DOTS (short duration TB treatment) method was a successful health programme.

The programme uses WHO recommended strategy and has become a model for other countries. Success rate of the programme has increased and only 4 per cent of people who contract the disease die, he said.

It is the 56th year of the Tuberculosis seal campaign.
