600 companies of para-military force for Bihar polls

Patna: To ensure peaceful poll in Bihar, in addition to the state police, 600 companies of central para-military force from different pools and policemen from other states would be deployed during the four-phase assembly elections.

Director general of police (DGP) Ashish Ranjan Sinha today (Oct 02, 2005) said the Centre had earmarked 170 companies of BSF, 162 companies of CRPF, 100 companies of CISF and five companies of Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) for poll work.

Besides the state police would also be assisted by police force of Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Orissa, Kerala, Indo-Tibetan border police, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal, the DGP said.

He said all the buildings housing polling booths would be manned by central para military forces in the sensitive districts of Siwan and Gopalganj going to polls in the fourth phase. The DGP said on the directive of Election Commission and orders passed by the Patna High Court, about 1.27 lakh non-bailable warrants had been executed during the past three months while 51,000 NBWs were still pending.
