Revision of electoral rolls on Jan 1, 2006 in TN
Monday, October 3 2005 15:01 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Madurai: With the publication of electoral rolls on September 15, the Election Commission has fixed January 01, 2006, as the qualifying date for the fresh revision of rolls in the state, Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said.

Prior to the beginning of the process, the Election Commission had planned to conduct a meeting of the CEOs of the southern states at New Delhi on October five, during which problems pertaining to addition and deletion of names in the rolls and other related issues would be taken up, he said yesterday (Oct 02, 2005).

The EC was serious about the complaints against those who had indulged in malpractices and irregularities in the recently concluded revision process, he said.

On the issuance of photo identity cards, he said preparation of ID cards was an elaborate process and with the Assembly election scheduled for next year, the time available was limited.
