'India will grow if rural areas become self-reliant'
Thursday, October 6 2005 20:07 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh): President A P J Abdul Kalam today (Oct 6, 2005) said the country will grow strong if its rural areas become self-reliant.

Villagers should make united efforts for achieving self-reliance, Kalam said, delivering a speech in Hindi during an inspection of water-shed works constructed by the villagers under the direction of Deendayal Research Institute in Patni Kala village, near here.

The nation will grow strong when villages progress and become self-reliant, he said.

Lauding the united efforts made by the villagers in carrying out development works in village Patni, Kalam administered a pledge to them asking them spread the message about the united effort they have put in.

Asking villagers to 'think high,' Kalam said modern knowledge of electronics can be implemented during the quest for development so as to enhance welfare and progress.

The President met the villagers, who had turned out in large numbers, before having his lunch in traditional manner along with Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar and Chief Minister Babulal Gaur.

Kalam also spent time with children and satisfied several of their queries.
