Bihar poll: Time for introspection by PM, says BJP
Friday, October 7 2005 15:43 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (Oct 7, 2005) said the Supreme Court verdict on the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly on the controversial report of Governor Buta Singh has questioned the role of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and it was time for introspection for him.

"It is time for introspection for the Prime Minister. Did he land himself into this conspiracy by calling a midnight meeting of the Union Cabinet to prevent Janata Dal (JD) United (U) leader Nitish Kumar from forming the Government next morning", party spokesman Arun Jaitley said after the Apex Court pronounced its order.

He said the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad was also instrumental along with the Governor in forcing the decision.

"We welcome the judgment of the Supreme Court. It has quashed the patent unconstitutionality", Jaitley said.

A fraud was committed on the people of Bihar when Kumar was prevented from forming the government despite majority support, he said.

"It is not only the Governor who was alone in the unconstitutionality, the RJD leader was also instrumental along with him (Governor) in forcing the decision", Jaitley said.

Former BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu accused the Congress and Left parties of 'bowing' to pressure of RJD to dissolve the Bihar Assembly.

"BJP will make a detailed study of the decision before moving forward," he said.
