Congress declines to comment on Apex Court verdict
Friday, October 7 2005 13:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chandigarh: Congress today (Oct 07, 2005) declined to give any immediate comments on the Supreme Court judgement declaring as unconstitutional the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly.

"Without reading the detailed judgment we would not like to make any comments," Congress General Secretary Ambika Soni said, adding the party would work for its success in the Bihar elections.

She was answering newsmen's questions here on the sidelines of the conclave of party Chief Ministers.

She also declined to comment on opposition demand for resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as the Union Cabinet headed by him had taken the decision for the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly on the recommendation of Governor Buta Singh.

Soni said she had no information regarding the basis or the circumstances on which the Supreme Court arrived at its decision 'which we accept.'

Answering a question on fixing the responsibility on those responsible for the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly declared as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, Soni said that this would also depend on the detailed judgement. On a specific question on action against Governor Buta Singh for allegedly having acted in a partisan manner, she said that when some one becomes a Governor he stops working on party lines.
