Strong tremors were felt across North India this morning. The tremors began at 9.25 AM and continued for a few minutes.
Initial reports said that they were felt in Delhi, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. There was no report of any casualty or loss to property.
People in high-rise buildings in the capital and nearby areas like Noida were rattled by the tremor and rushed out of their houses.
The fans and wall ganging were seen shaking.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the first tremor was felt at around 0920 hours while the second was reported 15 minutes later.
The telephone services have been disrupted in many places, sources said.
Strong tremors were felt across Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh. Tremors were felt across Rajasthan intermittently in the period of 15 minutes, but no causalities were reported, according to sources at seismological center at Ajmer.
Panic-stricken residents moved out of their houses and remained outside as the tremors were felt for several minutes.
There were also reports of tremors being felt in Assam.
