Mumbai airport runway unserviceable; Flights delayed Monday, October 10 2005 14:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Inbound and outbound flights of most airlines at the airport here were delayed since morning today (Oct 10, 2005) as the main runway continued to remain unserviceable in view of yesterday's mishap involving Air Sahara's Boeing 737, airport sources said.
The flights of all the airlines were delayed considerably as the aircraft had to use secondary runway in the absence of the main runway which was rendered unserviceable, the sources said.
Air Sahara's Kolkata-Mumbai Boeing 737 missed touchdown by several metres while landing and overshot the main runway which was closed immediately thereafter. The aircraft is still on the soft land and continues to block the main runway, the sources said adding, instrument landing system has also become unserviceable.
Meanwhile, the airport authorities have made available secondary runway but inbound and outbound flights of all airways were delayed.
Indian Airlines has 25 flights departing by 12 noon and most of them were delayed, an Airline spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Director General of Civil Aviation is probing the incident involving Air Sahara's Boeing 737 mishap which resulted in closure of main runway for long time, the sources said.
