Sarabjit case: Lahore Court summons prison officials Tuesday, October 11 2005 09:24 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
Lahore High Court yesterday (Oct 10, 2005) summoned the top prison officials of the Pakistan's Punjab government to appear before it today (Oct 11, 2005) in response to a writ petition filed by lawyer of Sarabjit Singh, who has been sentenced to death for his alleged involvement in the 1990 bomb blasts, seeking permission to meet his client in the prison.
The court would hear today the reasons for Punjab government not permitting Singh's lawyer Rana Abdul Hamid to meet him in the Kot Lakhpath prison in Lahore where he is currently housed.
Hamid filed a petition seeking court's permission after his repeated reminders failed to evoke response.
He wanted to meet Singh to get a brief from him about the petition he filed in the Supreme Court seeking a judicial review of the death sentence pronounced in connection with five bomb blast cases against him.
The Lahore High Court is expected to announce orders on Hamid's petition after hearing the prison officials today.
