Strong aftershock creates panic in survivors in J-K

Srinagar: A strong aftershock rattled Jammu and Kashmir, especially Uri and Tangdhar areas, in the small hours today (Oct 13, 2005) triggering panic among survivors of the massive quake that claimed over a thousand lives last Saturday.

Met department here said the temblor, measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale, occurred at 1:53 am. It classified the quake as moderate whose epicentre lay in Pakistan.

Spotlight: Quake in North India

The aftershock, strongest since the monster quake, forced survivors in Uri and Tangdhar sectors, rush out of their tents.

Over 1300 people lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir in the weekend quake and the region has been experiencing a series of aftershocks.
