Islamabad: Pakistan was rocked by fresh aftershocks, triggering panic in areas ravaged by Saturday's massive earthquake which claimed 23,000 lives.

There were no reports of any casualties.

The first tremor was felt at 23:29 hrs IST yesterday (Oct 12, 2005), with its epicentre near the national capital.

This was followed by a fresh tremor at 01:54 today (Oct 13, 1005) measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale. The quake, epicentered 100 km north of Islamabad rocked Rawalpindi along with the national capital and Muzaffarabad, the capital of PoK.

Today's aftershocks were also felt in Lahore, Sialkot, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Swat, Manshera and Kotli.

People rushed out of their homes in the capital shouting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is Great) and began reciting verses from the Koran, local media reports said.
