Srinagar - Muzaffarabad road to be repaired soon
Thursday, October 13 2005 16:44 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Srinagar: The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, which has been badly damaged by the massive earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir, will take atleast two months to be repaired, the Army said today (Oct 13, 2005).

According to an estimate by the Border Roads Organisation, the restoration of the road will take at least two months, General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lt Gen S S Dhillon, told reporters here.

Spotlight: Quake in North India

Dhillon said the road has been damaged by boulders and landslides at atleast three places. Aman Setu, the bridge over the Line of Control, has also suffered some damage.

Altogether four kilometres of the road has been damaged by the earthquake, he added.

The commander said as soon as the road is made motorable, the Caravan-e-Aman, the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus connecting both sides of the Line of Control, could start rolling again.

"The bridge is not a problem because in any case the passengers (of the bus) used to cross it on foot. We can have the service as soon as the road is through," he added.
