BJP says no to leadership change in Madhya Pradesh
Monday, October 17 2005 18:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: In a strong message to senior saffron leader Uma Bharti's loyalists demanding her return as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the BJP central leadership today (Oct 17, 2005) ruled out change of guard in the state and disapproved the public show of strength by her supporters.

"There is no proposal before the party for any change of leadership," BJP general secretary and spokesman Arun Jaitley told reporters here after an hour-long meeting of party general secretaries chaired by party President L K Advani.

While asserting that Advani has not received any letter from party MLAs seeking change of leadership, he said that in the party's disciplinary traditions "the party does not approve the mode of a signature campaign being publicly announced to express their viewpoint within the party."

He said Advani was in constant touch with state unit president Shivraj Singh Chauhan and has sought a report from him on the developments.
