Gaur should prove majority in the House: Congress Monday, October 17 2005 19:19 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bhopal:
Congress in Madhya Pradesh today (Oct 17, 2005) sought convening a special Assembly session to ask state Chief Minister Babulal Gaur to prove his majority.
"We have requested Governor Balram Jakhar to convene a special Assembly session and ask Gaur to prove majority," state Congress spokesman Manak Agrawal told sources.
With the MLAs turning against him, Gaur has completely lost support, Agarwal claimed.
"Around 112 MLAs have raised their voice against Gaur and demanded a change of guard," Leader of Opposition Jamun Devi claimed in a statement here.
"An extraordinary political and Constitutional crisis has been created in the state after the revolt by ruling party MLAs," she said adding work of the administration and Government has come to a stand still.
"In order to run the state government constitutionally, it is necessary that Gaur proves majority on the floor of the House," Jamuna Devi said, claiming to have written to Jakhar
about it.
The Congress demand came soon after the Uma Bharti faction in BJP made public the demand for her return as the Chief Minister and the party functionaries started making all out efforts to defuse the situation.
