Kolkata:
Ruling Left Front major, Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M), today (oct 17, 2005) asserted that it was not averse to Assembly polls in West Bengal due in May next year being held earlier if the Election Commission decides.
"We are prepared for polls any day before March three or after April 15," the state secretary of CPI(M) Anil Biswas told sources in an interview.
"We have not thought of preponing the elections. The Assembly polls in West Bengal are due in May 2006. We have not approached neither the Election Commission nor the Centre to prepone the elections," he said.
The Commission, however, should keep in mind the dates of the Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations in the state before announcing the election schedule for the state.
He said that between March 3 and April 15 the Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations were to be held.
