New Delhi:
The third consignment of 182 tonnes of relief supplies, comprising blankets, tents, plastic sheets, medicines and fortified biscuits, is being despatched to Pakistan today (Oct 17, 2005) by train.
The relief material will reach Amritsar later in the day and is expected to be sent through the Attari-Wagah border to Lahore tomorrow morning.
Today's consignment consists of 100 tonnes of fortified biscuits, 26 tonnes of blankets, 250 tents, 9.5 tonnes of plastic sheets and ten tonnes of medicines.
Soon after the killer earthquake struck India and Pakistan on October eight, New Delhi rushed the first lot of 25 tonnes of relief material to Islamabad through a military IL-76 transport aircraft. The second consignment of 68 tonnes was sent through four wagons attached to the Samjhautha Express on October 14.
