Tuesday, October 18 2005 12:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President L K Advani today (Oct 18, 2005) constituting a five-member delegation to visit the Karbi Anglong district in Assam where ongoing violence has claimed several lives.

The delegation, led by S S Ahluwalia, includes Indramani Bora, Rajen Gohain, Narayan Borkotoky (all MPs) and former Union Minister Bijoya Chakraborty, BJP media cell national convener Sidharth Nath Singh told sources.

The delegation, which left for Assam today, will assess the situation and submit its report to Advani, he said.

The party held the Congress Government in the state and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

Thirty-four Karbi tribals were massacred and at least 125 houses burned down in the worst-ever outbreak of ethnic violence in Karbi Anglong district yesterday (Oct 17, 2005), prompting the authorities to issue shoot-at-sight orders and clamp indefinite curfew in the area.
